With any new pet, it’s EXTREMELY important to gain their trust. Oftentimes, they have not been treated top notch in the pet store or by a former owner. Feeding or giving your animal a treat is a great way to get them close to you, and also have them gain your trust. If you only give them treats (such as fruits, veggies, or store bought treats) when they are out of the cage and close to you, then they will soon beg for your attention.
Good treats for guinea pigs include carrots, romaine lettuce (never iceberg, they can’t digest this), blueberries, apples, and oranges. Avoid any of the yogurt based treats that you can get in the pet stores for guinea pigs. Make sure to always have timothy hay available for your babies also!
